Mosaic: Shaping Disability Services
Leicester
Mosaic (formrly Leicestershire and Rutland Guild of Disabled Persons) is a well established charitable organisation, providing services to disabled people throughout the region, that required new facilities and Headquarter premises.
Whilst seeking a permanent site, generic proposals were produceed to enable the channeling of Ideas and desires for a new multi-use centre, culminating in a circular design. Arranged to minimise travel distances, an internal central ramp would provide different levels and provide a landmark feature for the organisation.
Planning consent was ultimately approved for a scheme on Watermead Country Park as a joint venture with Leics County Council combining the scheme with a visitors centre. The proposals were for a part buried eco facility overlooking a lake incorportaing geo thermal heat pumps, grass roofs, passive ventilation and a reed bed sewage filtration system.
