Retail Food Store

EDINBURGH

This new development in Edinburgh provides Sainsburys with a 100,000 ft2 store on stilts with car parking below a raised sales area. The brownfield development site is located adjacent to the Water of Leath, with some "challenging" levels issues.

The store and site layouts have been designed to respect the Water of Leath by maintaining a significant landscape zone to preserve the open aspect from the rear. Additionally the store frontage design has been influenced by the adjacent arched stone aquaduct, with a double height glazed atrium circulation space book-ended by entrance towers incorporating modern interpretations of the arches.

Access to the road frontage has also been a significant design factor with pedestrian access being provided via steps and ramps to provide full accessibility.
